Feature Volunteer Position
Mail Out Campaign Co-ordinator
The Society has opened a petition to the Federal Government to use the Species-At-Risk-Act (SARA) to protect undeveloped Burns Bog lands as critical wildlife habitat. We need your help to spread the word through this wide-spread mail-out campaign!

Volunteers should be available for 5-hour shifts during our opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. We prefer that volunteers in this position commit to at least 4 continuous weeks of volunteer work. Duties: As a Volunteer Mail-Out Co-ordinator, you will:

Day Camp Volunteers
(Youth volunteer opportunity- Grade 10 and up) Each summer, we host Burns Bog Summer Day Camps for kids ages 6-12 in the Delta Nature Reserve. We need help to get kids active and learning outside! Suitable for: Those interested in education and working with kids Requirements: Creativity, enthusiasm, and experience working with children required. Teaching or education experience is an asset. Volunteer Tour Guide
(Must be graduated from highschool) School groups and private groups are invited to book a tour with one of our knowledgeable tour guides to learn more about Burns Bog, and what we can do to take care of our environment. That knowledgeable guide could be you! Suitable for: Those interested in education and working with kids Requirements: Experience working with children and/or experience teaching in a classroom or outdoor setting. Events Volunteer
We provide opportunities for the public to interact with the bog's natural environment, offer a variety of community events to engage the public and ensure sustainable, ecologically sound management and governance of Burns Bog. Duties:

Photographer
Help us get the word out about what we do in the community by taking pictures at the Delta Reserve and at our local events! Suitable for: Those interested in the bog environment and a passion for photography Requirements: Good photography skills and a own your own high-quality camera Duties: Taking pictures of flora and fauna in the bog and at various events and activities the Society participates in (e.g. jog for the bog, day camps, etc.) |
Mail-Out Campaign Assistant
Help us fundraise by getting information about the Society and our programs by mail! Suitable for: Those looking to gain experience working in an office environment Requirements: No experience necessary Duties: • Learn how to use office mail-out equipment • Organize brochures and newsletters into envelopes • Organize and prepare large volumes of mail for postage |
Communication Assistant
Suitable for: Tech-savvy people who enjoy their social media and creative media Requirements: Experience using social media sites (e.g. Facebook, twitter, Instagram, etc.) Experience with using Photoshop, Publisher, and In-Design and creative eye are an asset. Duties:
Stepping into Nature Mentors
Stepping into Nature is a full-day, outdoor education program that gives elementary students the opportunity to learn about their environment right in their backyards! The festival reconnects students with nature & supports high school students develop leadership skills. Approximately 450 local grade 6 and 7 students attend the festival over the course of 4 days, with 30 STRIVE leadership students from South Delta Secondary leading each station. Retired educators help high school students lead each station in an engaging manner. They provide support for young leaders during the festival The festival features stations within the Delta Nature Reserve and along Lower Cougar Creek with interactive and hands-on activities that link curriculum outcomes to outdoor education. Independent Scientific Research Project
Suitable for: Those interested in undertaking an independent study of the bog environment in detail, and gaining experience as a researcher Requirements: Ability to run a research project independently, experience conducting scientific studies and researching using recognized, respectable academic resources.
